Travelers

I posted on October 2, but so much has happened since then! I want to include a lot of pictures, so I will keep the commentary to a minimum. During the last 2 weeks Abby and I visited Tempe, came back with some things for Abby's playroom and then we all went to L.A. for cousin Dexter's first birthday! We had to hit Disneyland on Friday before the Saturday party!

While in Tempe we stayed at our friends the Taysom's and their granddaughter, Caely was up for a visit from Tucson. Abby and Caely love to play and miss each other.
While in Tempe we visited IKEA because there is not one close to us now. I bought Abby a chalkboard, baskets, and red table and chairs for her playroom. Natalie and the Smolnik's came with us and we had a great time!

We also made our ritual stop to Arizona Mills Mall to ride the carousel--she likes to ride the bunny. We also purchased a small Buzz Lightyear to accompany her little Woody figurine. She really likes Toy Story!Natalie, Mommy, Abby, Caely, Ashley the morning we left Tempe. The night before we stayed up late talking and ended up with braided hair--made it nice for the trip home and reminded me of my days in London Study Abroad!

Here is the chalkboard we bought for Abby, decorated by one of my piano students. Matt had a New Faculty Dinner at Bakersfield College and so Abby went to play at a friends house and Matt and I attended the dinner. When we finished I picked up Abby and we all went to a Bakersfield Football game with the other new faculty and the president of the college. We had a great time at the game hanging out with Matt's department chair in his wife. Abby especially liked them and frequently climbed into their laps!

Disneyland! Abby knows who characters are now, we had so much fun. Disneyland unfortunately closed early due to a Halloween party, so at 7 p.m. we had to move over to California Adventure which was very crowded. We aren't so fond of the crowds. But we did get to sort of see their new show, "World of Color." It was a cool water show.

King Arthur's Carousel.

Saturday was cousin Dexter's first birthday party at a park. We all had a great time--especially Abby since she got to play for hours. She even got to swing at a pinata. We gave Dexter some blocks and a Book of Mormon!

New shelves

I have something to show that I am quite proud of! We can't really afford to furnish our beautiful house yet (especially since we always have to keep the money for adoption--just in case!), but we needed a couple shelves just to get things out of boxes. So we bought shelves for the music room (yes I now have a music room!) and the playroom. I am proud because Matt went to school and I put the music room shelves together by myself while Abby constantly ran away with the important pieces and tools. I got the shelves together and then had to stand them up! I did it! Much of the day was spent trying to sort out a whole lot of mixed up music so that I could teach piano lessons in a room that was organized. We barely made it and my new students (about 6 of them so far) are absolutely wonderful. I look forward to helping them discover the joys of music through the piano.
We also found a beautiful fountain for the outside of our home for an incredible price. It is not the season to be buying them, so we got it for a great deal--the last one Lowe's had in the store! I started putting it together before Matt got home to surprise him and then he helped me finish it thank goodness! Abby absolutely loves to put her hands in the water. The playroom shelves were a little heavier than the other two projects and fortunately Matt was home grading an enormous pile of papers and could help me when I called for him. I need to purchase baskets so that the toys will all have a home, but at least the shelves are up and her books now have a home. I think I need to move them down so that she can reach them. Abby loves to read!Friday night we attended an Elders Quorum social at the nice athletic field at the Church building. It was not well attended, but the people we met were so nice and I am sure we will all be friends. Abby enjoyed running around with the kids and ran away from the sprinklers that came on as we ate dinner. We are excited to get to know people here in Bakersfield.
