On another note I had a strange experience today. A young college graduate met with me to discuss the role of print press companies and thier relationship to professors. He knew way too much about me, ranging from my education to my family. I guess for the curious there is ample data available online. It is a weird world we live in when you can investigate somebody so thoroughly before ever meeting them. Perhaps it is the long overdue correction needed for the anonymity created by modern urbanity. Hundreds of years ago people behaved, in part, because they were part of a small community and everybody knew each other. In short, there was social accountability. With the advent of large cities we lost that. Maybe the recent rise of social media on the internet will help to recreate that lost mechanism of social control and encourage to think twice about anti-social behavior. Or maybe not.
