Last of August Fun

I thought I should finish up the last of the August fun since it is already September!
On August 18th we invited Ron Kean and his Wife Peggy and daughter Sara over for dinner. I met Ron when he came to ASU and the ASU Chamber Singers performed one of his pieces (he is a conductor and composer). I was the assistant director at the time and so I got to work with him and get to know him. Then when we moved to Bakersfield I realized that he teaches at Bakersfield College! I've had the wonderful opportunity to go in and work with his choirs. His wife teaches voice at Cal State Bakersfield and I play for some of her students. So we have been trying to have them over for some time. We really enjoyed a great dinner and hope to have them over again soon.
I've learned that getting ready for Church with two children takes a little more time than one! It's always a race to get ready before we get picked up to direct the Ward Choir. Here is another day of being ready--Lily was hungry!
Abby is so good with Lily. She wants to help change her diaper, feed, her, make her laugh, etc. But we've also had some interesting times since Lily came! Abby has acted out a lot in negative ways and I found myself wondering how to help her be a good girl. I tried rewarding her for good things, such as building this fun fort and watching a movie together.
But then an hour later I found her bedroom like this!
She emptied her drawers and her dirty clothes all over the floor. I had to wash all of it because I was not sure what was dirty and what was clean! She has also been wetting her bed at night, doing the exact opposite of whatever we say, trying to hit us, etc. One day she bit me and she's never done that before, she also crawled into Lily's crib and as she climbed out, went to the bathroom everywhere, found baby powder and you can only guess where that went--all over everything and her! What a mess!
Now, thanks to an idea from my sister, Tiff, we are working on a sticker chart where she earns stickers for doing something the first time she is asked, helping with Lily, and any other positive thing she does. She's earning a Toy story tent that comes with a sleeping bag and pillow for a long time (found it at Christmas and have been saving it!). She is so excited about the tent and is ecstatic about each sticker. I believe it is making a difference!

Celebration of Lily

On August 16th, our friends from Church held a party to celebrate Lily! It was such a wonderful party with delicious food, thoughtful gifts, and the nicest people. Matt's Mom and Dad drove up from LA just for the party and commented about how everyone was so sweet and genuine. A lot of people also thought of Abby which made it extra special for her. Thanks everyone!
We grabbed a quick bite to eat with Grandma and Grandpa before the party. Thank you for driving all of that way for Lily!
Check out the yummy food.

Two Adorable Girls

Check out our beautiful girls! I took them to JCPenney's to get their pictures taken because they were having a great sale and I wanted to get a 6 week picture of Lily like we did with Abby. The funny thing was that Abby and Lily almost changed personalities at the photo shoot. Usually Lily is pretty calm and easy and Abby can be more difficult to get to sit still and do what you want her to do. Abby was an angel at the photo shoot. She did everything the photographer said and was very patient with Lily. Lily kept crying and would not stay in any of the positions the photographer put her in. I had to give her a bottle and then take it out for the picture and stick it back in. We even let someone else go so that I could feed her some formula.
But we still made it and have some cute pictures to show for it.
Big sister. . . .little sister.

Oh how time flies!

I can't believe it's been a month since I posted. Can you tell I've had some other things going on?! Two kids definitely keeps me busier--especially since we did not have any preparation time for the second! Lily is absolutely wonderful and Abby is such a great big sister.
I thought I'd catch up on some pictures so enjoy!
Sunday, August 7th after Church:
Monday, August 8th Lily experienced her first Family Home Evening. We made it a special one and invited over our friends the Whitfield's and Aleman's. We had a good barbecue and a great lesson. All of the kids had a great time and everyone took turns holding and loving Lily.
Tuesday, August 9th we went to Abby's dance and gymnastics and everyone was very excited about Lily. Abby was proud to tell her teachers she is a big sister.
After dance we went over to our friend's house where we met up with other kids and had lunch. Then I ran Lily to her visit with her birth parents while Abby stayed and played. Thanks Marisa!
Since the day wasn't fun enough, we also got to see my cousin Mandy and her husband Russell. He is going to dental school at UCLA and they drove up to eat hang out, play with Abby and meet Lily! We were so excited they could come up and only wish they could have stayed longer. They are going to have a little girl after Christmas and we are so excited for them.
We've really enjoyed being outside in the backyard this summer and Abby loves her lion pool we found at Target. Best $15 I've spent in a long time!
On August 10th we had combined pool party for the young men and young women's activity. I worked with them on two songs they will sing for their upcoming Standards Night and then they enjoyed the pool. My friend Stephanie Holladay loved holding Lily and Abby found the cutest dog to hold. She would not put it down and we had to make her leave when it was time. Abby loves animals.
On the 14th Lily looked so cute that I had to take a picture!
This is one of Abby's favorite shirts. She calls it her Sparky shirt because it has Sparky the ASU mascot on it. I have to hide it when it is dirty or she will wear it again and again.
The morning of the 15th found us at dance and gymnastics once again. Everyone loved Abby's skirt which was given to her by Grandma Barbara. Abby is getting more comfortable with dance now and still loves gymnastics. We are always working on waiting our turn and listening!
A dancer in the making. . . .
